During this hands-on event\, you’ll improve your hatch matching knowledge by learning from professional entomologists from The Salmonfly Project. \n\nYou’ll learn about the biology of aquatic insects found on the Blackfoot.\nYou’ll learn how to collect and identify aquatic insects\, including the nymphs and adults of your favorite hatches.\nYou’ll learn about the life histories and behaviors of different insects and how to mimic them to catch more fish.\n\nPlease bring weather-appropriate wading gear and clothing\, as this is an outdoor event! \nAll participants will receive a field guide of major hatches of the western US. Free refreshments will also be provided. Donations are encouraged; all donations will go directly to The Salmonfly Project to support their local education and conservation efforts.

SUMMARY:Gallatin River Aquatic Insect Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Come volunteer with us to survey aquatic insects from the Gallatin River! \nWe’re gearing up for our third season of aquatic insect monitoring on the Gallatin River\, in collaboration with Gallatin River Task Force. This season\, we’ll be resurveying nine sites to measure annual changes in aquatic insect communities. Results from this study will help track the status\, trends\, and threats to aquatic insects on the River and will help guide our efforts to protect the Gallatin’s food web and hatches. \nWhen: August 24th to 28th\, from 9am-5pm \nNo previous scientific experience is required to volunteer – only the ability to wade confidently in knee-deep water while carrying nets and supplies. Volunteers will help SFP staff sample aquatic insects\, while learning about aquatic insect ecology and identification. A minimum of 4 hours is required to allow sufficient time for training\, but volunteers are asked to stay for an entire 8-hour day\, if possible. Please bring your own waders\, boots\, and other basic supplies (e.g.\, food\, water\, sunscreen).
