Gallatin River Aquatic Insect Monitoring
Come volunteer with us to survey aquatic insects from the Gallatin River!
We’re gearing up for our third season of aquatic insect monitoring on the Gallatin River, in collaboration with Gallatin River Task Force. This season, we’ll be resurveying nine sites to measure annual changes in aquatic insect communities. Results from this study will help track the status, trends, and threats to aquatic insects on the River and will help guide our efforts to protect the Gallatin’s food web and hatches.
When: August 24th to 29th from 9am-5pm
No previous scientific experience is required to volunteer – only the ability to wade confidently in knee-deep water while carrying nets and supplies. Volunteers will help SFP staff sample aquatic insects, while learning about aquatic insect ecology and identification. A minimum of 4 hours is required to allow sufficient time for training, but volunteers are asked to stay for an entire 8-hour day, if possible.
