Upper Snake River Aquatic Insect Monitoring

September 21 @ 8:00 am - September 25 @ 5:00 pm

Come volunteer with us to survey aquatic insects from the Upper Snake River!

We’re gearing up for our fourth season of aquatic insect monitoring on the Upper Snake River, in collaboration with Jackson Hole Trout Unlimited. This season, we’ll be surveying aquatic insects at seven sites on the Snake, ranging from above Jackson Lake to Palisades Reservoir. This project is helping establish a modern baseline of aquatic insects on the Snake, while tracking changes in food-web quality, water quality, and insect hatches into the future.

When: September 21st-25th from 9am-5pm

No previous scientific experience is required to volunteer – only the ability to wade confidently in knee-deep water while carrying nets and supplies. Volunteers will help SFP staff sample aquatic insects, while learning about aquatic insect ecology and identification. A minimum of 4 hours is required to allow sufficient time for training, but volunteers are asked to stay for an entire 8-hour day, if possible. Please bring your own waders, boots, and other basic supplies (e.g., food, water, sunscreen). If you’re interested, please sign up via the following link: https://forms.gle/8LzQW9ze9FHXPzQ3A.

Reach out with questions to conservation@salmonflyproject.org.
