Big Wood River Aquatic Insect Monitoring

August 31 @ 9:00 am - September 4 @ 5:00 pm

Come volunteer with us to survey aquatic insects from the Big Wood River!

We’re gearing up for our third season of aquatic insect monitoring on the Big Wood River, in collaboration with Project Big Wood. This season, we’ll be resurveying twelve sites to measure annual changes in aquatic insect communities. Results from this study will help track the status, trends, and threats to aquatic insects on the River and will help guide our efforts to protect the Big Wood’s water quality, food web, and hatches.

When: August 31st to September 4th from 9am-5pm

No previous scientific experience is required to volunteer – only the ability to wade confidently in knee-deep water while carrying nets and supplies. Volunteers will help SFP staff sample aquatic insects, while learning about aquatic insect ecology and identification. A minimum of 4 hours is required to allow sufficient time for training, but volunteers are asked to stay for an entire 8-hour day, if possible. Please bring your own waders, boots, and other basic supplies (e.g., food, water, sunscreen). If you’re interested, please sign up via the following link: https://forms.gle/ixVst6JHBRZrnfuZ6.

Reach out with questions to conservation@salmonflyproject.org.
